What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an absorbed state, it’s like daydreaming, or getting lost in a good book. You are always in control! For example when you’re in hypnosis if a baby cries, you would still hear it. It’s simply an absorbed state of mind, just like when you’re watching a film, or nodding off to sleep.

Your conscious mind is working all day, making judgements, decisions, and choices in the present, and your unconscious is where all your memories, beliefs, and habits are stored. We use hypnotherapy to bypass the conscious, so that we can speak directly to your unconscious mind to get results.

Hypnosis is a natural state which occurs regularly in everyday life, for instance, when you’re driving down the motorway and you miss your junction, you’re driving unconsciously, you’re not sure how you’ve missed your junction – you’re in a state of hypnosis. But, if there’s fog, your conscious mind will kick in because you’ll need to pay more attention to the road, so you’ll then be more present.

While people can experience different things during hypnosis, it’s useful to think of it as a state of mind. Imagine you’ve been on a lovely holiday in Spain and a few days later you’re in wet and windy England. You can immerse yourself in the memory of your holiday any time you want. You can imagine the heat, the smell of sunscreen, the food, the relaxing atmosphere – your mind has taken you somewhere else that feels more realistic than your current reality of wind and rain. This is also a state of hypnosis!

Hypnotherapy is a highly effective and therapeutic approach that can help with managing pain, anxiety, behavioural changes, and various other physiological and psychological conditions.

It is a powerful therapy that helps you envisage the type of life you want and gives you practical tools to help you stay focused and motivated.

​It helps you develop new helpful ways of thinking, helps you access your inner potential, and it’s a great opportunity to take some time out for yourself and experience a deep sense of relaxation
